The Effect of Learning on the Evolution of Asexual Populations

چکیده
We study a model for the effect of learning on a population of asexually reproducing individuals . While current models are usually based on simulations of the actual hypothetical organisms, we adopt a classic population genetic approach, which deals directly with gene frequencies. This allows us to investigate the model in great detail, obtaining results which are difficult to obtain using other techniques . In particular, we demonstrate that learning has a drastic effect on evolution, as has already been noted by Hinton and Nowlan [3] using computer simulations. A detailed quantitative description of the temporal behavior of the model is also presented. In particular, an interesting interplay between mutation and learning is demonstrated.

Multi-objective Differential Evolution for the Flow shop Scheduling Problem with a Modified Learning Effect
This paper proposes an effective multi-objective differential evolution algorithm (MDES) to solve a permutation flow shop scheduling problem (PFSSP) with modified Dejong's learning effect. The proposed algorithm combines the basic differential evolution (DE) with local search and borrows the selection operator from NSGA-II to improve the general performance. First the problem is encoded with a...
متن کامل Structure Learning in Bayesian Networks Using Asexual Reproduction Optimization
A new structure learning approach for Bayesian networks (BNs) based on asexual reproduction optimization (ARO) is proposed in this letter. ARO can be essentially considered as an evolutionary based algorithm that mathematically models the budding mechanism of asexual reproduction. In ARO, a parent produces a bud through a reproduction operator; thereafter the parent and its bud compete to survi...
متن کاملA Comparative in vitro Study of the Effect of Eosin B on Asexual Blood Stages and Gametocyte of Plasmodiun falciparum
Background and Objective: Malaria is one of the most life-threatening infectious diseases worldwide. Transmission of the parasite from human to vector mosquitoes is carried out by the gametocyte of the Plasmodium parasite, while these cells are not involved in the symptoms of the disease. The control of the human to mosquito transmission stage of the parasite life cycle by antigametocyte drugs...
متن کاملKaryotypic Study and Chromosome Evolution in Some Iranian Local Onion Populations
Abstract A karyotypic study was performed on 12 Iranian local onion (Allium cepa L.) populations. A number of mitotic cells at metaphase stage for each population were prepared. Chromosomes of suitable mitotic cells were counted and various parameters, including long arm (L), short arm (S), total length of chromosome (TL), relative length of chromosome (RL), arm ratio (AR), r-value, total chro...
متن کاملThe ecology and genetics of fitness in Chlamydomonas. VIII. The dynamics of adaptation to novel environments after a single episode of sex.
According to classical evolutionary theory, sexual recombination can generate the variation necessary to adapt to changing environments and thereby confer an evolutionary advantage of sexual over asexual reproduction. Using the green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, we investigated the effect of a single sexual episode on adaptation of heterotrophic growth on different carbon sources. In an ini...
